Welcome to the Colorado FireBreak FAQ page. Here you'll find answers to common questions about our wildfire protection systems, how they work, and what makes them unique.
-
Colorado Fire Break is a customized system that quickly delivers a fire suppression product called FireIce to cover structures and surrounding trees and vegetation. This not only protects the structure, but also helps to create a firebreak. The system is designed to inhibit fire progressing through the treetops, over the ground, and even floating embers.
-
Each Colorado Firebreak System is uniquely designed to fit your property and landscape. Pricing is fully custom and based on your site’s layout, terrain, and desired protection level.
-
In many wildfire-prone areas of Colorado, having a Colorado FireBreak system can be a major selling point for buyers, potentially increasing your home's value.
-
Wildfires are unpredictable, so it's important to choose a system designed for worst-case scenarios, such as:
Fire personnel being unable to reach your home
Withstanding a wildfire for 30 minutes or more.
Protection against embers and firestorms. Multiple deployments for ongoing protection.
Defense against radiant heat and embers reaching vulnerable areas like soffit vents.
Colorado FireBreak is designed to address all these circumstances.

FireIce is an environmentally friendly, powder-like substance that, when mixed with water, becomes a gel. This gel coats wood and other materials, making them fire-resistant even when exposed to temperatures over 2,000°F. FireIce both extinguishes fire and dissipates heat, and is non-toxic to humans, wildlife, and pets. It can be easily rinsed away with water after the danger has passed.
-
Water: While water can tame fire, it evaporates quickly and requires large quantities to be effective. FireIce lowers temperatures drastically and kills fire on contact, using less water.
Class-A Foam: Many foams are corrosive or toxic and break down too quickly. FireIce is non-corrosive, non-toxic, and lasts longer, providing better protection for your home and windows.
-
Yes. FireIce is non-toxic, non-corrosive, and actually helps soil and plants retain moisture. It is approved by the United States Forestry Service as non-threatening to the environment.
-
Yes. FireIce can be rinsed off with water. As a hydrogel, it can remain on trees and plants, helping them stay hydrated in dry conditions.
-
Our automated systems are activated by sensors that detect fire or embers and send signals to a proprietary controller. This controller initiates steps such as mixing FireIce with water, closing soffit vents, and coating areas to be protected. The system can also be set up for manual activation if desired.
-
Yes. The system is designed for both rural and wildland-urban interface areas. It can even be configured to create a firebreak for a group of homes at a shared expense.

Some jurisdictions may require a permit. Colorado FireBreak will handle any necessary permits, and our team includes licensed professionals in plumbing and electrical work.

Cistern: If you have a large enough cistern, it can be integrated into the system, reducing your overall cost.
Generator: If your generator is reliable and meets the system's requirements, it may be used as the power source.
In addition to traditional generators, we also offer quiet, low-maintenance
battery backup systems. Which is a popular choice for many homeowners.
-
Many insurance providers now recognize Colorado Firebreak Systems with mitigation credits or premium discounts, rewarding proactive wildfire protection.
